The Operations Department is responsible
for the maintenance of all equipment at KRUI. Students involved
in this department are able to assist in tasks concerning technical
competence. There is a great responsibility in maintaining adequate
records and ensuring equipment is repaired in a reasonable amount of
time. Certain administrative duties such as maintenance of proper
files and the management of KRUI's production studios have to be handled
in an effective, professional manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Repair all equipment when repairs lie within the scope of the department's understanding. Equipment includes:
a) cart machines in all studios
b) cassette decks in all studios
c) station transmitter
d) air and production studio boards
e) reel-to-reel tape decks in all studios
f) microphone compressors in all studios
g) turntables in all studios
h) MARTI remote broadcast unit
i) speakers in all studios
j) microphones in all studios
k) light fixtures in offices and studios
l) stereo receivers in studios and offices
m) headphones in all studios
n) Emergency Broadcast System receiver/transmitter
o) modulator
p) KRUI antennae
q) compact disc players in all studios
Upon notification, the Operations
Director will look into equipment problems and personally repair or
be responsible for scheduling repair with outside engineer. Report
to General Manager on equipment problems and action taken within three
(3) days.
2) Maintain a file of available sources
that can be contacted and consulted when a repair is more involved than
the department is capable of executing.
3) Maintain an adequate inventory
of necessary supplies, as budget will allow, required to keep the equipment
of KRUI functioning continuously.
4) Maintain an up-to-date file of equipment
repair manuals.
5) Develop and maintain transmitter
logs. Ensure that transmitter log sheets are printed and
available to air-staff.
6) In conjunction with the Program
Director, ensure that all on-air operators hold an FCC Operators License.
7) Forward all equipment warranty materials
to the Administrative Director.
8) Accompany every piece of KRUI owned
equipment with instructions detailing proper operating instructions.
9) Assume responsibilities of Chief Operator
as designated by the FCC.
10) Hire necessary staff and see
that they are properly trained to ensure Operations Department duties
are completed without fail (see also Organizational Structure, Hiring
Procedure).
11) Evaluate Operations Department staff
in accordance with Evaluation Procedures.
12) Attend all management meetings.
13) Perform any other reasonable duties
assigned by the General Manager.
14) The Operations Director is required to fulfill 10 hours of office time per week.
Supervision is by the General Manager.
The Operations Director has authority over the staff members of the Operations Department.
