5/10/07 Part Two - Noriaki Imai English Interview

Here is the last episode of the Insurgency Hour, featuring Shiori Yamazaki's exclusive interview with former hostage Noriaki Imai! This is the English translation, thanks to Jeff Richter who stands in as the voice of Noriaki Imai. Mr. Imai was studying the effects of depleted uranium when he was taken hostage in Iraq (at the age of 18, I believe). Shiori went to Chicago last month so that she could spend time with him and record this amazing interview. Also featured is commentary by Mumia Abu-Jamal. Many thanks to all of our listeners for supporting us!!!

Documentary - "THE PATCH" by Nate George

A non-fiction film by "Insurgency Hour" engineer and host Nate George. The file is large (212 MB) and is playable in both iTunes and on iPods. The film is about 20 minutes long.

Intro:
Between March 6, 2006 and June 5, 2006, all 19 of Cedar Rapids resident Mark Lou Meyer’s urinalysis tests came up negative for illegal drug use. During this same period, 7 PharmChem “PharmChek” sweat patches tested positive for cocaine. 1/120th of a gram of cocaine detected on the PharmChem sweat patch got him 6 months in Federal Prison, 6 months of halfway house, 2 years of probation. At least four scientific studies (reference article was released in 2001) establish that there is a 20%-40% chance of false positives due to environmental contamination of the sort seen in Mark’s case. There are thousands of people across the country who are in prison because of a patch that sends two out of every ten tested to jail for something they did not do.

"Clients who have successfully beaten a drug habit should not be accused of drug use because of a bureaucratic unwillingness to admit a mistake. Clients should not be sent to jail because scientists think that a 20% error rate is 'pretty good.'"
-Franny Forsman, Nevada Public Defender, 2001
